About Us

History

The New Hampshire Council on Autism Spectrum Disorders was created by the NH Legislature in 2008 to provide coordinated leadership in addressing the healthcare, education, and service needs of individuals who experience autism or a related disability. The Council’s composition and charge are described in HB 1634.

In the 2013 state legislative session, the legislature passed H.B. 236 to broaden membership of the Council to include increased representation by individuals who experience an autism spectrum disorder.

Purpose

Under the legislation, the primary function of the council is to coordinate services to parents and families including promoting comprehensive and quality education, health care, and services for individuals with ASD. The council also advises state agencies in implementing recommendations outlined in the commission’s report.

The full Council meets monthly to consider recommendations, identify priority issues, and assist state agencies in attracting resources for initiatives aligned with the Recommendations of the 2008 Commission on Autism Spectrum Disorders and the 2016 State Plan – Growing Supports and Services for Autism and other Related Developmental Disabilities.
